DNA Banking and Profiling
Our DNA banking and profiling services allow individuals to prepare for the future by preserving their genetic information. Clients may use these services for several purposes:
To protect against illegitimate claims on an individual’s estate
To provide a standard for comparison and identification of people in high-risk professions, such as men and women in the military, law enforcement personnel, firefighters, and overseas contractors
To assist with the identification of missing persons or give clues about the trail of a missing loved one
To identify inherited traits, such as genetic diseases and other physical characteristics
DNA Banking
Our DNA banking service provides organizations and private individuals with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that their DNA samples are stored in a safe and highly secured environment. Clients will receive a banking certificate stating the storage period (15 years), the names of the persons authorized to retrieve or use the samples, and other important information. Banked samples may be used for future DNA tests. We test each sample for the presence of viable DNA before storing it.
DNA Profiling
Our DNA profiling service allows individuals to obtain a record of their genetic profile—a unique combination of 16 locations (loci) found in their DNA that serves as a permanent genetic ID. Clients will receive a typing report that lists their allele sizes at each DNA locus.
Chain of Custody Requirements
Chain of custody requirements must be fulfilled for test results to be defensible in any legal situation, such as inheritance disputes. These requirements include the following:
1. Samples are collected by a neutral third party, such as a clinic or laboratory.
2. The individuals tested are positively identified (i.e., they present a government-issued ID to be photocopied and/or they are photographed and fingerprinted).
3. A standard DNA Diagnostics Center kit is used.
4. Each party completes and signs a Client Identification and Consent Form
Non-Chain of Custody Requirements
In a non-chain of custody test, samples are collected by the patients themselves. Results of testing on the DNA samples are for personal reasons only and may not be used for legal purposes.
1. A DDC Banking Kit (containing buccal swabs) must be used for self-collection by the patients themselves, at a time and place they choose.
2. Since the origin of the samples cannot be verified, the report or certificate will show the donor’s name as submitted in quotation marks (e.g., “Jane Doe”) together with the reference number.
3. Each party completes and signs a Client Identification and Consent Form for DNA Banking.
